ERASMUS EXCHANGE PROGRAM
DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY

The first half of year 2013 became memorable when I got a rare opportunity given by NIFT, to study abroad in England for a semester. The program not only provided me exposure to new technological advancements, but also gave me freedom to explore England’s culture and heritage.
The projects undertaken involved weaving on Dobby and Jacquard looms and print development in Adobe Photoshop. The refreshing hues and textures of Tulip flowers was a great influence while experimenting with weaving, whereas the classic black and white contrast in one of my themes, Urban Graphics also served as my print project’s inspiration. The final Jacquard fabrics were an amalgamation of both; following the Tulip colour palette and the silhouettes from Urban Graphics. An extensive research on latest trends, textiles and techniques was done and a proper design process was followed, which kept me clear and confident.

All in all, attending the ERASMUS exchange program was a highlighting experience. It allowed me to evolve and be global in my approach. A designer is at best when she doesn’t have any boundaries to her mind. This experience gave me new perspective and a stronger drive to better myself.
