ERASMUS EXCHANGE PROGRAM
                                                      DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY

NIFT gave me an excellent opportunity under ERASMUS Exchange programme at DeMont Fort University, Leicester, United Kingdom.

Courses offered were in woven and print design.  The theme was inspired by the attractive and unique forms and textures of trees and branches. The color palette is subdued yet sophisticated. A varied assortment of color combinations are used throughout the collection. Materials like skeleton of leaf, pearl and beads are used. Explorations with a wide range of yarns that include clear monofilament, solvron, thick and thin elastics,  fine and shiny yarns like polyester, viscose, silk floss, Rubco, lace and raffia.

The initial project comprised of chunky yarns, more earthy color palette and the tree texture was highlighted. Working with monofilaments was challenging, but it was a remarkable experience as it gave me a tremendous opportunity to explore and work with all the new paraphernalia.

The collection as a whole appears luxurious, rich, exquisite and extremely ornate. It has elements of transparency, sheerness enhance with crushed effect. Working on Jacquard and Dobby further enhanced my experience and contributed a great deal to my knowledge of textiles.

This design process  helped me learn a lot about transforming a 2D design into a 3D surface. The fabulous manifestations helped me learn innovative stitches and new finishes. I acquired the skills of machine embroidery while boosting my adobe photoshop skills.
